Practice Tips

-If you're having trouble working up a song, start at the beginning and play it hands alone. Play the right hand, the left hand and then if you're comfortable with the notation try putting it back together. I've found this helps so much.

-Go slowly at first! You don't need to get your tempo immediately. Your tempo will come as you practice more, so take your time. Don't practice in mistakes, because they're harder to fix once they've been practiced in. You're more likely to make a mistake if you're rushing through a brand new song.

-Practice, practice, practice! The more you play a song, the more it will get cemented in your mind and your muscles will start to "memorize" it, meaning they'll know how they're supposed to move for a certain song. Practice makes the piano player, so practice daily.

-Play the piano at least 20 minutes per day, but make sure you warm up first! Playing piano is just like any other activity or sport. If you don't warm up correctly, you increase your risk for injury.

-Keep your hands nice and rounded, as if you have a bubble underneath them. Don't drop your wrist and rest it on the piano.
